Climbing trees in her summer dress before a night out in the city/ "If I close my eyes I think I can see"/ We sat out on the grass sharing drinks not saying much but/ Now someone new I can’t take my eyes off of her bruised legs on mine/ I hope my attitude belies the/ Fears I guard (I’ve got) from prying eyes/ I'd hate for any meaning/ To be lost in all my clumsy singing/ Four hours one hundred and fifty miles/ I read and dream of home all the while/ We sat outside the station and said our hasty goodbyes/ “I’ve had the time of my life and I guess I’ll see you next time”/ I hope my attitude belies the/ Fears I guard (I’ve got) from prying eyes/ I'd hate for any meaning/ To be lost in all my clumsy singing/
2.
In a dark room she stands/ Hands clasped and eyes pressed wide/ To try and make out/ Faces in the faint light/ Dust filled beams drifting in/ From the street outside/ Artificial sunshine to try/ And chase away the night/ Please wait just wait let’s try/ And keep this in perspective/ Maybe discard our inflated/ Sense of self importance/ Please wait just wait let’s try/ And keep this in perspective/ Maybe discard our inflated/ Sense of self importance/

Fifty Nine 03:04
All the songs that I could never write/ Words and chords that will never see the daylight/ What a year it’s been, I sat and thought of the beginning/ Tried to remember all that’s happened all we’ve done. There’s so much to say but there’s not enough time left to say it/ I miss all our friends but I’m just lucky to have met them/ And I never did tell you just how much she meant to me/ Maybe in another life. This is no song of true love unrequited/ But it’s no childhood crush/ Something there, it’s so clear, better left unsaid/ Sometimes strangers make such close friends. We barely talked but whenever we walked and her hand brushed mine/ Well I still think of those times as I lay awake at night/ There’s too much to say and I’m still not sure if I’ll say it but/ Maybe in another life.
4.
I was going to avoid clumsy exposition by diving in/ Trying to find my voice again/ But I always end up chasing my own tail/ All my mistakes snapping at my heels/ A bad joke would have been a fitting start but/ I’m not daring enough for that/ Besides I feel more comfortable/ Just sticking to the facts/ My dear brother you are living in a fool’s paradise/ An idealistic world where I can never reside/ You know you’re right with all your heart/ Just like me. Just like everybody else/ Two people were sitting in the gutter, talking about honesty/ At least that’s how it seemed to me/ One turned to the other with her eyes lit by concern/ She took him by the shoulders and told him how it was/ “That kind of intense belief is a burden, don’t be so sure of yourself/ Don’t be so hard on your friends life will never be as simple as you planned/ And no-one ever has all the answers/ Just let people be; what makes you you is all that you believe”/ My dear brother you are living in a fool’s paradise/ An idealistic world where I can never reside/ You know you’re right with all your heart/ Just like me. Just like everybody else/
5.
Walking home I’m happy half drunk so I think about/ What I want from my life/ And then I think about your face when it is flushed with/ The pleasure of youth and cheap wine/ Or how the songs my friends write keep unhappiness at bay/ Along with people I know and bands I don’t from across the land and the sea/ I know you’re not singing to me, but while your records play/ I feel a little bit better/ Yesterday a pretty girl smiled and set next to me on the bus/ Even though I smelled like stale cigarettes/ Sweat and beer/ We didn’t speak but it was nice just knowing she was there/ And to my best friend, who I don’t see as much as I’d like/ I always wish you were here/ Moving to this town is the best thing that I’ve ever done/ But not bringing you with me is the worst/ Oh it’s nights like this that make me feel alive/ Oh it’s nights like this that make me feel alive/ I’m so tired that I can feel it in my bones and there’s still/ Miles and miles to walk before I get home/ But its nights like this that make me feel alive/ Its nights like this that make me feel alive/ So maybe all of this will turn out alright/ You told me that you quit your job, and said/ “I don’t think peace of mind can be worth this place/ All I’ve got to my name is free time/ And I’m happier than I’ve been in weeks”/ You told me that you quit your job, and said/ “I don’t think peace of mind can be worth this place/ All I’ve got to my name is free time/ And I’m happier than I’ve been in weeks”/
